Priego

Thursday, May 30th, we took a day trip to the town of Priego. We walked through the town and visited the Castillo de Priego. It has an Arabic style and was rebuilt in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. It has been a national historic monument since 1943. There is a stone wall that is still standing in the castle and it is the oldest stone in Priego. It has Roman carvings on it.

Jueves, 30 de Mayo, viajamos a la localidad de Priego. Caminamos por la ciudad y visitamos el castillo de Priego. Tiene un estilo árabe y fue reconstruido en los siglos XIII y XIV. Ha sido un monumento histórico nacional desde 1943. Hay un muro de piedra que es más antigua de Priego. Tiene tallas Romanas.

We walked past some cherry trees and got to eat a few of the cherries. They were different than ones we have in the US. These cherries were more vibrant red and smaller. After the cherry trees, we saw some beautiful views of the olive trees and mountain ranges.

Nos paseamos por algunos árboles de cerezas y comimos algunos de las cerezas. Eran diferentes de los que tenemos en los Estados Unidos. Estas cerezas eran rojas más vibrantes y más pequeñas. Después de los cerezos, vimos algunas hermosas vistas de los olivos y cordilleras.

Our last stop in Priego was the King's fountain. The fountain was rebuilt to have a complete Baroque design in 1803 and has 139 water spouts. The centerpiece is a sculpture of King Neptune and his wife Amphitrite riding through waves on their chariot. The sculptors were Remigio del Mármol and José Alvarez Cubero.

Nuestra última parada en Priego fue el fuente de los Reyes. La fuente fue reconstruida para tener un diseño barroco completo en 1803 y tiene 139 caños de agua. En el centro de la fuente fue una escultura del rey Neptuno y su esposa Amphitrite montando a través de las olas en su carroza. Los escultores fueron Remigio del Mármol y José Alvarez Cubero.
