Lunes, 20 de Mayo, nosotros quedamos en nuestra ciudad local de Córdoba y recorrimos La Mesquita de Córdoba. Al entrar en La Mesquita, hay un patio/plaza se llama la Plaza de los Naranjos. Este es un lugar hermoso.
The mosque was built in one year and the workers used recycled Roman material such as columns made of marble. One of the materials that the columns are made of is called alabastro and it is transparent. Because they are recycled, each column is a bit different. Some have capitals and some have bases. Since the columns were so short, a double arch was added on top to add height and it adds a unique look. At the time, this was the biggest Mosque in the world. It faces Meca, which is considered the "Holy ground" for Muslims. Some Mosques built after this one face this Mosque.
La Mezquita fue construida en un año y los trabajadores utilizaron material reciclado de los Romanos tales como los columnas que están hechas de mármol. Uno de los materiales de los que están hechas las columnas se llama alabastro y es transparente. Porque se reciclan, cada columna es un poco diferente. Algunos tienen capitales y algunos tienen bases. Ya que las columnas eran tan cortas, se construyó un arco doble para añadir altura y un aspecto único. En ese momento, esta era La Mezquita más grande del mundo. Se enfrenta a la Meca, que es "un terreno sagrado" para los Musulmanes. Algunos Mezquitas construidas después de esta se enfrentan a este Mezquita.
One thing that really stood out to me was that the Catholics built a Cathedral inside of the Mosque. It was hard to wrap my head around the idea of Catholics and Muslims both praying under the same roof. I have always thought of Religions being strict and that is true in other parts of the world but in Córdoba, they have found a way to coexist. I think this is extremely important because it set an example of how the world should be. Peacefully coexisting while simultaneously practicing different Religions and beliefs. The Cathedral is facing Jerusalem because Jerusalem is the Catholic's "Holy ground." Saint Rafael is celebrated for getting rid of the black death in Spain. He is one of the only saints celebrated here.
Una cosa que realmente me destacaba fue que los Católicos construyeron una Catedral dentro de la Mezquita. Era difícil entender cómo los Católicos y los Musulmanes no tenían problemas para rezar debajo de el mismo techo. Siempre he pensado que las Religiones son estrictas y que es cierto en otras partes del mundo, pero en Córdoba, han encontrado una manera de coexistir . Creo que es importante porque se trata un ejemplo de cómo el mundo debe ser. Coexistiendo pacíficamente, mientras que practicaban simultáneamente diferentes Religiones. La Catedral se enfrenta a Jerusalem porque es un "terreno sagrado" para los Católicos. San Rafael se celebra por deshacerse de la muerte negra en España. Es uno de los únicos Santos que se celebran aquí.
